From a small industrial town in the north of China to the south, Zhang Yao is one of the few Chinese folk musicians who takes on a number of instruments in his studio tracks and live performance—— accordion, violin, classical guitar, harmonica, loop, sampler... you name it. Alone with his band, the multi-talented trio makes a “classical musical ensemble under the disguise of folk” as some might say. The Chongqing-based classical folk musician began song-writing in 2012, and had then performed with folk acts like Song Dongye、Yao Shisan、Ma Di. In 2016, Zhang Yao released his first debut album and toured over 70 cities in the last two years. In early January 2018, he was named Emerging Artist of the Year in folk category by Live Power Awards in Beijing. This March 24, Zhangyao and his band will start an extensive China tour in 33 cities around his brand new EP《Silence》.
